$1 million lottery ticket sold at Okatie store

A person who bought a Millionaire Raffle ticket from the Kangaroo Express on S.C. 170 in Okatie just hit the jackpot.

It's just not clear yet who that person is.

Lottery officials are waiting for the lucky customer who bought the number 00165290 to claim the grand prize.

Millionaire Raffle tickets were sold for $10 each throughout the state from Sept. 13 to Nov. 15. Two of 500,000 tickets were for $1 million -- which, after federal and state taxes that claim 32 percent, are worth $680,000 each.

Kyle Edwards, supervisor of the Kangaroo Express, said lottery tickets are a popular item, and he expects them to sell even better because of the winning ticket.

"People will probably think it's a lucky store," he said.

The winner has 180 days to collect the cash in person from one of three regional S.C. Education Lottery centers. The closest one to Beaufort County is in Mount Pleasant.

"We're waiting and looking for him," said lottery spokeswoman Holli Armstrong.
