A 28-year-old Hilton Head Island man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after he struck a road worker early Tuesday on Simmonsville Road in Bluffton, according to a Bluffton police news release.
The man was driving a Ford pickup truck south on Simmonsville Road near U.S. 278 at about 12:30 a.m. when he struck a construction worker and a trailer, according to the release.
The construction worker, who was directing traffic for the Simmonsville Road widening project, was taken to Coastal Carolina Hospital, where he was treated and released later that morning, the release said.
