A Hilton Head Island woman was bringing groceries into her home Thursday when she noticed a large rattlesnake by the front door.
Fearing the snake would harm her family and pets, she contacted the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office just after 1:30 p.m.
The snake had slithered to the woman's property line off Sand Dollar Road when the deputy arrived. The deputy checked to see if the neighboring lot was empty and no one was in harm's way before shooting the rattlesnake, according to the report.
