Firefighters free man trapped in wreck

A man was injured Friday morning when a flat-bed truck and a refrigerated delivery truck collided at the intersection of Ribaut Road and Paris Avenue in Port Royal.

The crash happened about 11:45 a.m., according to a news release from Beaufort Fire Department. One of the drivers was trapped beween his seat and the dashboard, said fire Capt. John Robinson.

"The dash was pushed into the cab trapping his chest and feet," he said. "Firefighters used two power units, operating two sets of spreaders, one set of circle cutters and the ram to free the victim."

Traffic was tied up for about an hour as crews freed the man and cleared the debris from the northbound lanes of Ribaut Road, according to the release. Information about the man's injuries was unavailable.
