Free class to discuss use of local land

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of South Carolina Beaufort will present a lecture on land use from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 3 in Suite 304-A of the Pineland Station shopping center on Hilton Head Island.

The class will address how global finance, peak-oil concerns and climate change have affected land use and the implications for Beaufort County. It will focus on solutions to five challenges -- jobs, water quality, government services, land use and growth -- and emphasize issues specific to Hilton Head, including airport expansion.

Reservations for the free class, "Balancing Man and Nature: Land Use in the Lowcountry -- Hilton Head," are required.
