Beaufort grocery store robbed at gunpoint

An unknown, masked suspect robbed Pruitt's Grocery store in downtown Beaufort at gunpoint Saturday and fled with an undetermined amount of money, according to the Beaufort Police Department. The subject, described as a tall, thin black man wearing a mask, entered the businesses at about 7:50 p.m. and demanded money from the clerk, police Chief Matt Clancy said in an e-mail. The clerk fell or was pushed down by the subject and was examined by Beaufort County Emergency Medical Services at the scene, Clancy wrote. The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit was dispatched but did not find the subject, Clancy said. The investigation continues, and anyone with information is asked to call 843-322-7958 or dispatch at 843-524-2777.
