Corps reopens comment for bombing range

A problem with a post office box prompted Marine Corps officials to reopen the public comment period on a proposed land acquisition that would expand Townsend Bombing Range, owned by Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.

The Navy might purchase as much as 45,000 acres near the 5,183-acre range in McIntosh County, Ga., according to a notice published in the Federal Register.

A problem with a post office box caused some public comments received by mail to arrive after the Sept. 7 deadline, according to a news release Friday.

The public comment period will now end Nov. 8, the release said.
