A spokesman for the S.C. Highway Patrol declined Friday to say whether charges would be filed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday on U.S. 17 that sent 18 people to area hospitals.
A 1997 Ford Taurus driven by Anthony Nelson, 27, of Mount Pleasant was traveling north on U.S. 17 when the vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a 24-passenger Champion charter bus near the intersection of U.S. 17 and Kinloch Road, police said.
Nelson had to be cut free from the vehicle and was flown to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah. Attempts to reach a spokesman for the hospital Friday for an update on his condition were unsuccessful.
The driver of the bus and 16 passengers were taken by ambulance to Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
