The Palmetto Animal League of Bluffton has received a $20,000 grant from Tom's of Maine for its efforts to help stray dogs find a home. PAL was one of five nonprofit organizations to win a grant after online voting by the public in the "50 States for Good" initiative, according to a news release from Tom's of Maine, a "natural products" company. The program is designed to spotlight local nonprofit projects. PAL plans to use the money to build a "dog lifestyle room" to help acquaint dogs with living in a home, so they will be able to acclimate to their surroundings after they are adopted, the release said. "This grant ... allows us to make sure the dogs have everything they need to find a permanent home," PAL executive director Amy Campanini said in the release.
