The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency have organized a medicine take-back Saturday.
Residents can bring any unwanted, solid prescription and over-the-counter medicines to one of 1,700 sites around the country from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Liquids, such as cough syrup, will not be accepted.
In Beaufort County, residents can bring the items to either the Beaufort Police Department substation at 1205 Duke St. or the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office substation at 7 Lagoon Road, Hilton Head Island.
Unused drugs pose a danger to people and ecosystems, the agencies said in a news release. Properly discarding unused medications prevents intentional misuse and unintentional poisonings of children and pets.
