Utility work ties up Beaufort traffic

SCE&G workmen replace a natural-gas valve and adjoining pipe Wednesday under Scott and Port Republic streets in Beaufort. Eric Lewis, left, uses a propane torch to heat up a protective wrap, so Pezlo Suil, right, can use it to cover the exposed metal of the pipe joints where they have been welded together. The work will take two more days to complete, according to Mike O'Farrell, SCE&G gas operations district manager.
