Beaufort and Port Royal Police officers and Beaufort County Sheriff's deputies cordoned off a section of Shell Point on Tuesday as investigators and police dogs searched for a suspect in a shooting last week in downtown Beaufort.
Beaufort Police Chief Matt Clancy said one of the city's investigators was acting on a tip that Jefferson Lemonte Lee, 42, was hiding inside a trailer on Briarwood Drive in Port Royal.
Lee is wanted by Beaufort Police on one count of assault with intent to kill after police say he shot a 44-year-old Seabrook man in the wrist May 6 near the corner of Duke and Charles streets.
Clancy said when Lee spotted the officer, he ran into a wooded area. After searching for more than two hours, investigators called off the search.
