Update: Beaufort elementary school given ‘all clear’ after evacuation for gas leak

Beaufort police notified the public that Beaufort Elementary school had been evacuated.

The notice was delivered at 2:30 p.m. Friday. The school is located at 1800 Prince St. The school, police said, has a natural gas leak near the gymnasium.

Fire and police departments were on the scene. No injuries were reported.

At 3:30 p.m., police issued an update: “School has been cleared, and the students have been picked up from school.”
