Helene was a a category 4 hurricane when it crossed Florida’s Big Bend region. By the time the disturbance made it to the Lowcountry, it had been downgraded to a tropical storm but sill managed to do damage throughout Beaufort County especially in the coastal areas.

The $200,000 in repairs also included stabilizing improvements to the observation tower.
