The Beaufort County Treasurer’s Office is in the process of mailing more than 3,800 postcards to property owners whose address of record may no longer be correct.
State law requires notices be sent to the address of record. If a taxpayer’s mailing address is outdated, they may not receive correspondence from Beaufort County, according to a county news release.
The treasurer’s office was able to use technology to electronically detect incorrect mailing addresses and identify potential alternative addresses to send the postcards, the release said.
These small postcards contain the taxpayer’s property identification number and the total amount due. A taxpayer may return the postcard with their updated mailing address or complete an online form, as well as pay the delinquent tax.
