Hurricane Matthew’s expected storm surge will cause water to be turned off to some Sea Islands beginning Friday.
Water to Fripp, Harbor, Hunting and Coosaw islands will be turned off at 3 p.m. Friday, a Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority news release said. Service will be restored when weather allows and when the utilities serving the islands confirm their system is intact, the release said.
When water is turned back on, residents should boil water for at least one minute before drinking or cooking until the advisory is lifted.
Joheida Fister, Hilton Head Town Fire Marshal, said there are no plans from any of the town’s water providers to turn off water at this time.
