Junior Service League of Beaufort announces grant recipients

The Junior Service League of Beaufort has awarded more than $8,500 to six local nonprofits that support the league's mission to help women, children and families.

The recipients are: $550 to Child Abuse Prevention Association for its independent living skills program; $1850 to Citizens Opposed to Domestic Abuse for its community education and volunteer coordination program; $1,700 to Thumbs Up Children's Education Center for its science, math and technology summer program; $2,000 to Hope Have for its "Strengthening Families" program; $960 to FRIENDS of Caroline Hospice to expand its child bereavement support group; and $1,500 to the Beaufort Women's Center for its "Earn While You Learn" parenting program.

The league, which was started in 2005, has given grants to area organizations for three years. Details:
