National Wildlife Refuge Week is Oct. 9-16, and the Swamp Girls Paddle Club will sponsor two kayak trips on the Savannah River in the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge.
Participants in the four-hour, 12-mile paddle for experienced kayakers will meet at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 9 at Millstone Landing in Hardeeville, then paddle to the Hoolihan Turnbridge Landing near the Port of Savannah.
The second trip is beginner-friendly. Meet at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 16 at Millstone Landing. Participants will be shuttled up river to Beck's Ferry Landing, then will paddle along the upper portion of the Savannah Wildlife Refuge to Millstone Landing. This is an historic section of the river with an abandoned cypress rice barge.

This event was founded by Susan Chapman, and is dedicated to her. Linda Etchells will be the guide for both trips. Suggested donations are $15 for tag alongs and $45 for loaner kayaks. Money collected will go to the "Friends of the Savannah Coastal Wildlife Refuges." Bring snacks and water.

Sun City residents can help people living with multiple sclerosis by participating in a MS fundraising walk at 6 p.m. Oct. 15 at Jarvis Creek Park on Hilton Head Island. Starting at 5 p.m., registration tables will open and dinner will be provided by Carrabba's Italian Grill. Walkers will stroll on the one-mile paved path around a scenic lake, followed by a candlelight ceremony. Sun City residents are invited to walk, ride a scooter, cheer on the walkers and enjoy this fun and inspiring evening with friends and neighbors. Coastal Carolina Hospital will present four free seminars in October for Sun City Hilton Head residents. The lectures will be held 5:30 p.m. at Hidden Cypress. Hors d'oeuvres will be served. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the sessions at Lifestyle Services in Pinckney Hall.

The Holiday Inn Oceanfront will host the ninth annual Community Christmas Day Dinner from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 25 at the hotel, located at 1 South Forest Beach Drive on Hilton Head Island. The Women's Tennis Organization of Sun City's annual charity event, "Tennis in the Pink," will be held at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 1 at the tennis courts in Sun City Hilton Head. A lunch will be held at noon in the pavilion. The event is open to all Sun City residents and their guests. Donations will go to the breast cancer nonprofit organization Carolina Cups.
