Yemassee will be the new site of Hampton County's annual mud run, part of the long-running Watermelon Festival held each summer.
The festival's mud run was previously held for nearly 40 years at the clay pits next to the Hampton County Airport in Varnville. This year, Hampton County Council voted against allowing the event to be held at that venue, according to the festival's website.
The 73rd Watermelon Festival begins June 20.
The 2015 Mud Run will be June 28 at the Yemassee Mud Run, 27890 Pocotaligo Road.
Gates open at 10 a.m., with races at 1 p.m.
Admission will be $10 for adults and $5 for children 11 and under.
