Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry thankful to consistent Bargain Box support

I want to thank The Bargain Box for its generous support of Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry during my 11-year tenure as executive director.

Throughout my 21-year association with LVL, The Bargain Box has been our most reliable single source of revenue, other than the United Way of the Lowcountry.

With the help of The Bargain Box, LVL was able to serve more than 630 adults in our last program year. This year we have experienced a 46 percent increase in demand for our adult basic education and English as a second language programs. The recent grant from The Bargain Box will help us meet that demand and equip adults with the reading, writing, speaking and math skills they need to succeed in their families, the workplace and the community.

During its nearly 50 years of existence, The Bargain Box has contributed more than $12.9 million to nonprofit organizations in Beaufort County. This generosity is made possible not only by the volunteers and staff, but also by those who patronize the thrift store and contribute items for resale.

My personal thanks go to all The Bargain Box volunteers, staff, patrons and donors.
