A driver in a three-car crash Saturday on Hilton Head Island ran from the wreck and has not been found, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
At about 5 p.m.., the driver rear-ended a vehicle that was stopped at the light at the intersection of U.S. 278 and Spanish Wells Road, which caused that vehicle to hit the one in front of it.
The driver who caused the pileup then got out and fled, according to Sgt. Robin McIntosh. Witnesses described him as a 5-foot-2, 130-pound Hispanic male between 25 and 40 years old. He wore a blue, zippered sweatshirt and blue jeans. Witnesses said he appeared to be intoxicated or disoriented. His vehicle, a black Nissan Maxima, was severely damaged, and there was blood in the car, indicating the driver might have been injured, McIntosh said.
The occupants of the other two vehicles were not injured.

Deputies used a K9 unit to search the area but did not find the driver, who has not been identified or located since the crash, McIntosh said.
