This morning was very chilly, with temperatures hovering around in the 30s, but now things are starting to move again on our weather maps.
A meteorological "plunger" -- a storm over the Atlantic Ocean -- has removed the blockage, and a high pressure system from Ohio is now drifting south.
Active fronts follow that system, bringing a chance of wintry weather early Friday for northern Georgia and possibly even central Georgia and South Carolina. A Canadian cold front coming from the northwest will drive into the state Friday, and cold air will already be in place. Any falling moisture may be frozen -- either sleet or freezing rains -- from Macon to Augusta northward. There's a slight chance for sleet in some inland northern counties, too. After that, the winter threat is gone.
Cooler temperatures are behind the front again, about like this morning, but there will be lots of sunshine for whatever you've got planned this weekend. If you're outside in the morning, you'll want gloves and a hat. Later, you'll still want a jacket. Meteorologist John Wetherbee, CBM
