Automated external defibrillators are everywhere: in churches, businesses and schools, and The Town of Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue Division wants to find out where all of them are. A new online registry intends to catalog all of the AEDs on the island. That information will become part of the division's computer-assisted dispatch so when someone suffers a heart attack, dispatchers will be able to direct emergency callers to the nearest defibrillator. The registry, just recently launched, is a result of the division's Heart Safe Community award, which requires them to continually improve heart-attack care.
