Hilton Head buys vacant building to preserve environment near busy intersection

The Town of Hilton Head Island Tuesday purchased a vacant office building that was once the site of RBC Real Estate to prevent further commercial development at a busy intersection.

The building, located on William Hilton Parkway near Folly Field Road, was bought from Greenburg King Associates, LLC for $200,000. The land sits next to a portion of the town's Driessen Family Beach park. The purchase will be paid for using proceeds from a multimillion dollar land-buying bond referendum approved by voters in 2008 to control commercial growth, reduce traffic congestion, protect water quality, preserve the environment and historic sites, create parks and build public facilities.
