On behalf of Lowcountry Business Circle, Station 300, Buckwalter Place and Operation R&R, thank you to all that came out to the Bluffton Block Party on Sept. 8.
The event kicked off with Hannah Brown singing our national anthem as the American flag swayed in the wind from a ladder truck. Bluffton Mayor Lisa Sulka and Grant Evans, founder of Operation R&R, said a few words and then Twisted Leg and Bad Justice took the stage. Families were milling around, the bouncy houses were jumpin'. All About Me Salon & Spa was donning the girls (and some guys) with red and blue hair extensions, and the RE/MAX Island Realty hot air balloon was counting down the time for balloon rides. Hilton Head Preparatory School's Aviation Club walked around collecting donations for bracelets and the event was off to a great start.
About 3:30 p.m. the sky opened up, and a thunderstorm dumped an incredible amount of rain on Bluffton, bringing the event to a sudden end. Many thanks to our sponsors, who set up booths for the event but had to leave early.
This event was done to raise awareness and money for Operation R&R, which has no political affiliation and brings soldiers returning home from wartime deployments, their spouses and children for a low-cost week- long vacation to re-acclimate with their families on Hilton Head Island and Charleston.
