Hardeeville's election chief was given a slap on the wrist Wednesday by the S.C. State Ethics Commission for "unintentionally and inadvertently" violating state law. Scott Ready, at the time a City Council candidate, accused Hardeeville Municipal Election Commission chairperson Joyce Meeks of improperly disqualifying him from challenging the sitting councilman, Meeks' son-in-law. Without Ready's candidacy, there would have been no election, and the incumbent, Roy Powell, would have been re-elected by default. Meeks will be served with a letter of warning and asked to pay a $250 fee.
