Palmetto Electric Cooperative customers will pay an extra $4 a month facility charge beginning Oct. 1. The electric coop recently announced the charge will increase from $12 to $16 a month. The charge last increased in 2008 from $8. Palmetto Electric says the facilities charges are changing to more fairly recover the fixed costs of delivering electricity to members. This change will not completely recover these costs, but it is a move toward a fairer recovering of fixed costs, according to a spokesman.
