Palmetto Animal League will celebrate the first anniversary of its adoption center with a week's worth of events culminating with a free birthday "paw-ty" from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Beginning today, the community is invited to visit the center all week from noon to 7 p.m. for birthday cake and a tour. The center is at 56 Riverwalk Blvd. off S.C. 170 in Okatie.

The party Saturday will feature music, food, face painting, pet photography, a pet-themed pumpkin decorating contest, a pet costume contest and a pet/owner look-alike contest, judged by Bluffton Mayor Lisa Sulka and state Rep. Bill Herbkersman. Pets may be brought in for a low-cost vaccine and microchip clinic. Pet food donations will be accepted.

Details: 843-645-1725

The league also is looking for volunteers to sort donations, help customers, and pick up donated furniture for the new Palmetto Animal League Thrift store in Sheridan Park in Bluffton. For a volunteer application, call 843-837-6369 or go to www.PalmettoAnimalLeague.org.
