Animal group celebrates anniversary

Palmetto Animal League will celebrate the first anniversary of its adoption center with a week's worth of events, culminating with a free birthday "paw-ty" from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 29. Beginning Monday, the community is invited to visit the center from noon to 7 p.m. all week for cake and a tour. The center is at 56 Riverwalk Blvd. off S.C. 170 in Okatie.

The party on Oct. 29 will feature music, food, face painting, pet photos, a pet-themed pumpkin decorating contest, a pet costume contest and a pet/owner look-a-like contest, judged by Bluffton Mayor Lisa Sulka and state Rep. Bill Herbkersman. Pets may be brought in for a low-cost vaccine and microchip clinic. Pet food donations will be accepted.
