ARTworks in Beaufort was selected for a non-competitive Arts Education in American Communities grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The $10,000 grant, which will be matched by community funds, goes to support ARTworks' Bridging Cultures and Generations Through Music program. The arts organization is working to bring in two black musicians to teach and perform in the county in 2012: classical violinist Chelsey Green and blues artist Guy Davis. The goals for the project are to introduce students and the community to new musicians, to inspire young musicians regardless of race and socio-economic status, and to encourage audience diversity and assist in bridging cultural and generational divides.
