The National Alliance on Mental Illness Beaufort County will start its fall speaker series with Joy Lauerer, a nursing professor at the University of South Carolina Beaufort. She also has her own private practice at Volunteers in Medicine. She will discuss "New Treatment Options in Mental Health" at 7 p.m. Sept. 13 at Lowcountry Presbyterian Church, 10 Simmonsville Road in Bluffton. The seminar follows NAMI's monthly Evening Support Group for caregivers and family members of a person with a mental illness. The Support Group begins at 6 p.m. and the seminar is at 7 p.m. NAMI Beaufort County is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with mental illness and their families through programs of education, support, and advocacy and the promotion of recovery and dignity.
