The bodies of two full-grown pit bulls wrapped in a towel were removed Tuesday from property in Shipyard Plantation on Hilton Head Island, according to Joe Maffo, owner of Critter Management.
Maffo said the dogs were "beautiful," and the cause of death was not obvious.
A brown female had blood coming from its mouth, he said, and a gray male with a white chest had minor scratches on its hind legs.
Maffo said the towel was "high-end," and the dogs had obviously been cared for.

Contacted late Friday afternoon, Sgt. Robin McIntosh, spokeswoman for the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office, said she had not seen a report on the dogs. Sheriff's Capt. Bob Bromage, branch commander of criminal investigations, said he also had not heard of the incident.
McIntosh said a Beaufort County Animal Control officer would likely have taken the case. Attempts to reach Animal Control on Friday evening were unsuccessful.
