A 31-year-old man was slashed on the neck by an acquaintance Wednesday night at an apartment complex on Hilton Head Island, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
The victim had argued with a 24-year-old man at a bar earlier that night, according to a news release and incident report. The argument escalated when they returned to a friend's apartment at The Dunes at 6 Woodward Ave.
The suspect, listed as homeless on the incident report, "reportedly pulled a knife, slashing the victim in the neck" and ran, the release said.
Investigators are trying to confirm the suspect's identity. Though the victim said he knew his assailant, Sgt. Robin McIntosh said his injuries prevented a thorough interview.

"It's important that we get a positive identity before we can really move on that information," McIntosh said.
The man was taken to a Savannah hospital; his condition is not being disclosed.
