Police search for two men after brutal Bluffton attack

Beaufort County Sheriff's investigators are searching for two men in connection with the severe beating of a Bluffton man early Thursday.

The incident occurred about 4 a.m. on Fox Path Lane and left the victim hospitalized in Savannah with facial fractures and subdural hematoma, or bleeding in the brain, according to a sheriff's office report. He has since been discharged, according Beth Lakey, a spokesman for Memorial University Medical Center.

Police are searching for Donald Rhinesmith and Michael Holder who face charges of attempted murder, first degree burglary and third degree assault and battery, according to sheriff's office Lt. Glenn Zanelotti. Rhinesmith is the brother of the victim's girlfriend, the report said.

According to the report, the two men kicked open a locked front door, entered the bedroom where the couple was sleeping, and beat the victim. The victim's girlfriend was also injured in the attack and was treated and released at Coastal Carolina Hospital, according to the report.

The victim's girlfriend told investigators her brother "was not happy" she had reconciled with the victim after pursuing criminal domestic violence charges against him.
