The 2011 Women's Empowerment Conference will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 21 at Technical College of the Lowcountry, Building 12 (Health Sciences Building), in Beaufort. The keynote speaker is human trafficking survivor and author Theresa Flores. Girls between the ages of 13 and 18 are invited to the teen conference, which will offer appropriate educational workshops and activities. Beaufort Memorial Hospital Mobile Wellness Unit will offer free blood glucose and blood pressure screenings, breast exams (screening mammograms) and skin cancer tests. HIV testing will also be available through ACCESS Network. Hemoglobin A1C and cholesterol screenings will be available for $10 each; fasting is required. The conference is free. Registration is required by May 14.
