A fire at about 2 p.m. Thursday at a home on Kindlewood Lane has been deemed suspicious by the Bluffton Township Fire District, and the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
A neighbor reported seeing a woman he identified as the former resident of the home and several men force entry through a front door, according to Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Sgt. Robin McIntosh. Soon after they left, the neighbor saw the home on fire and called 911, McIntosh wrote in an email.
The fire caused about $5,000 in damages to the home, according to the incident report. The fire's cause was determined to be suspicious, according to Bluffton Township Fire District Capt. Randy Hunter.
The Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation. No suspects have been identified, and no charges filed, according to McIntosh.
