A third arrest has been made in an investigation into car break-ins Feb. 5 in the Farm at Buckwalter, and an arrest warrant has been issued for a fourth suspect, according to a news release Monday from the Bluffton Police Department.
Kodi Michael Smith, 18, and Joseph Henry Waitekus, 17, both of Bluffton, face charges of breaking into a motor vehicle, petit larceny and financial transaction card theft. Smith is the son of a woman previously arrested in the case, the release said.
The first arrests were made Feb. 17 when a man was caught on a Bluffton store's video camera using a credit card stolen from one of the cars, according to police. His girlfriend lied about his identity, and she was charged with giving false information to police.
Police believe Smith and Waitekus broke into the vehicles, the release said. Waitekus was still at-large Monday afternoon. Smith was released from the Beaufort County Detention Center on his own recognizance, according to the jail log.
Investigators have two digital cameras that might have been stolen during the Feb. 5 break-ins.
