Fripp Island Audubon will present "The Feathers on Nellie's Hat -- The Fight to Save the Birds" on Thursday at the Fripp Island Community Centre. Award-winning nature photographer John Alber will present a true tale of tea parties, unsolved murders, legislative double-crosses, great successes and unbearable defeats to save the birds. From 1879-1914, 5 million birds were slaughtered every year for their feathers. Reception is at 6 p.m. and the program begins at 7 p.m. Visitors are welcome to get a pass at the gate. Admission is free.
