Critics, novelists to discuss Southern writing

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of South Carolina Beaufort will host three literary critics and three novelists from South Carolina during a special event from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Friday at the Hilton Head Gateway campus, Hargray Building Room 156, in Bluffton. The critics are Tara Powell and Robert Brinkmeyer, both from the University of South Carolina's Institute for Southern Studies, and Charles Israel of Columbia College. The novelists are Pam Durban ("So Far Back"), Josephine Humphreys ("Nowhere Else on Earth") and George Singleton ("Work Shirts for Madmen"). Moderator will be Jan Nordby Gretlund, professor of American Studies at the University of Southern Denmark. Gretlund is visiting professor at USCB this term as he launches his latest publication, "Still in Print: The Southern Novel Today."

This event is free and open to the public. Reservations are encouraged.
