The Gullah/Geechee Fishing Association will host the inaugural Gullah/Geechee Seafood Festival at noon Saturday at the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive and Sea Island Parkway on St. Helena Island.
The event features cast net making and fishing tradition demonstrations, crafts, books, food and live entertainment. Admission is free; seafood dinners are $10 a plate. The association focuses on educating the public about Gullah/Geechee fishing traditions and advocates for the rights of those of African descent working in the seafood industry.
