2 injured in 3-car crash on U.S. 278 in Bluffton

Bluffton Police say a green 2007 Kia Sportage traveling west on U.S. 278 at about 1:30 p.m. tried to merge into a left turn lane, but sideswiped a white 2005 Hyundai Sonata waiting to turn left and then flipped onto its side, according to a news release.

The Hyundai then hit the rear of a 2001 Dodge pickup waiting to turn left. The Kia driver, Sofia Madero, 30, of Savannah was airlifted to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah with unknown injuries. The Hyundai driver, Leac Higgins of Bluffton, was taken to Hilton Head Hospital with minor injuries.

The Dodge driver was not injured, according to the release. Traffic was tied up for about 45 minutes. Madero was cited for improper lane change.
