When a Hilton Head Island man went to feed his nine chickens Monday morning, he found blood in their coop, an ax in the middle of a field, one chicken dead, another hiding in the corner and the rest of the birds gone, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report released Tuesday.
The man told an officer he had similar problems last year with his goats and said his friend believes there is a cult in the area.
The man "would find his goats decapitated with the blood drained," according to the report.
The man said he thinks a human must be responsible for the latest incident because there were no holes in the chicken coop and the door was open.
He told the officer he knows the issue is minor, but "his chickens mean a lot to him," according to the report.
The officer searched the area for evidence but found none.
