Motorcyclist killed in collision with truck in Port Royal

An 18-year-old motorcyclist was killed Friday night in a collision with a small truck in Port Royal.

The man, whose name was not released by the Beaufort County Coroner's Office, was riding on Parris Island Gateway about 7:30 p.m. when he collided with a Toyota pick-up truck near Marina Boulevard at the base of the Russell Bell Bridge, said Dan Byrne, spokesman for the Burton Fire District.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, Byrne said.

The female driver of the truck was uninjured, he said.

Attempts Friday night to reach the S.C. Highway Patrol for details about the crash and information on possible charges were unsuccessful.

The Burton Fire District, Beaufort County EMS and the Port Royal Police Department responded to the crash, which closed the two eastbound lanes of Parris Island Gateway for about 45 minutes, Byrne said.
