Patriots, planters walks continue in October

A Patriots and Planters Walk will be presented at 2 p.m. on Fridays in October by the Coastal Discovery Museum and the Heritage Library Foundation. Participants will meet at the site of the Zion Chapel of Ease/Revolutionary War Cemetery at Mathews Drive and William Hilton Parkway (across from Carrabba's) on Hilton Head Island for an informative walk and talk about the patriots and planters who are buried there. Among the subjects to be covered are Capt. William Hilton's naming of Hilton Head Island in 1663; the French and Spanish settlements; plantation life, slavery and the Gullah culture; history of the chapel and many more historical tidbits. Walks will be held Oct. 8, 15, 22 and 29. Entrance is from Mathews Drive. Reservations are required: $12 for adults and $7 for children. Details:843-689-6767, ext. 223
