A new Goodwill store will open Friday at 509 West Island Park in Bluffton with a 10 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The celebration will feature a free hot-dog lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and hourly prize drawings from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In addition to a drive-through for donations, the 25,000-square-foot store will offer a JobLink Center equipped with computers and scheduled to open in about six weeks. The center will provide free job-search and resume assistance, GED preparation and career coaching, according to Tina Marshall, vice president of corporate relations for Goodwill Industries of Lower South Carolina.
"Bluffton is one of the areas we are chartered to serve, so it's been in our growth plan to reach out to the area and see what services are needed," Marshall said.
Last year, Goodwill helped 19,000 people in South Carolina with employability training and found jobs for 1,000 people, Marshall said.
The new store will employ about 40 people, including eight to 10 with disabilities, through a program with the state Department of Disabilities and Special Needs, Marshall said.
The store will be open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
