A standoff in which a middle-aged man barricaded himself inside his Hilton Head Plantation home Wednesday night ended peacefully around 11:33 p.m. when the man was taken into custody, according to Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Renita Berry.
The man, who police declined to identify, called a dispatcher around 7:30 p.m. Berry described him as “disgruntled.” She did not know what the man said to the dispatcher. A later Sheriff’s Office release said the man made threats suggesting he was armed.
“Within 30 minutes of the phone call, we had people on site trying to initiate contact,” Berry said.
After the standoff ended, Berry said deputies found weapons in the home. She said police were continuing to search the home and surrounding area for weapons late Wednesday. There were no injuries, Berry said.

He was the only one in the house, Berry said.
“We were able to safely resolve the situation,” Berry said.
Also on the scene were Hilton Head Plantation security officers.
As deputies worked to resolve the situation, area residents were asked to remain in their homes through a reverse 911 call system, the news release said.
Berry said the Sheriff’s Office would release a more detailed report on the incident today.
