A walk Friday at Hilton Head Island High School was dedicated to popular Hilton Head Island Middle School teacher Kathy Jaworski, who died of breast cancer in 2005.

Originally held to defray Jaworski's medical expenses, the race now raises money for scholarships for graduating seniors.

Hilton Head Island High junior Michael Brewer was first in the men's 5K run, and school science teacher Melanie Williams was first in the women's run. National Honor Society adviser Kristen Karszes estimated that when last-minute donations are tallied the race will have raised about $1,200.
