The Lowcountry Institute’s Tony Mills holds up a common snapping turtle during his Lowcountry Reptiles and Amphibians program Wednesday in the Mary Ann Peeples Pavilion at Honey Horn on Hilton Head Island. The LowCountry Institute is a nonprofit organization in Okatie works to educate the community on the value of the unique environments of the Lowcountry. Its mission is threefold: environmental education, effective management of native habitats, and water quality protection.Its biologists travel to schools and other locations, offering programs to students and adults.
