Single-car crash in Burton kills driver, leaves two passenger's hospitalized

One person was killed and two others seriously injured in a single-car crash Tuesday night in Burton.

A 2002 Chevrolet Trail Blazer carrying three people was traveling north on Parker Drive near Schien Loop at about 7 p.m. when the SUV ran off the left side of the road, said Lance Cpl. Bob Beres, spokesman for the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The driver over corrected, causing the SUV to overturn, Beres said. All three people in the vehicle, none of whom were wearing a seatbelt, were thrown from the car.

The driver, whose name was not released Tuesday night, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the highway patrol.

Both of the car's passengers -- Tikeshia Davis, 23, and James Hayward, 35 -- were taken by ambulance to Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Their conditions were not disclosed Tuesday.

Beres said the highway patrol is investigating the crash.
