Beaufort police arrested a 20-year-old Georgia man Monday morning who investigators say threatened to kill a woman with a wooden stake.
A woman living at Spanish Trace Apartments on Southside Boulevard told police a man tried to break in around 5 a.m., and he was armed with a three-and-a-half-foot-long piece of wood.
The woman told police the man was yelling he would kill her if she did not let him in and had removed the light bulbs outside her apartment so she could not see him, said Police Chief Matt Clancy.
Clancy said officers found Nico Jermare Lockhart of Lincolnton, Ga., trying to hide just feet from the apartment door in the stairwell. The woman said she had met Lockhart before but did not really know him, according to police. No injuries were reported.
